Summary

Nash Morgan was always known as the good Morgan brother, with a smile and a wink for everyone。 But now, this chief of police is recovering from being shot and his Southern charm has been overshadowed by panic attacks and nightmares。 He feels like a broody shell of the man he once was。 Nash isn’t about to let anyone in his life know he’s struggling。 But his new next-door neighbor, smart and sexy Lina, sees his shadows。 As a rule, she’s not a fan of physical contact unless she initiates it, but for some reason Nash’s touch is different。 He feels it too。 The physical connection between them is incendiary, grounding him and making her wonder if exploring it is worth the risk。

Too bad Lina’s got secrets of her own, and if Nash finds out the real reason she’s in town, he’ll never forgive her。 Besides, she doesn’t do relationships。 Ever。 A hot, short-term fling with a local cop? Absolutely。 Sign her up。 A relationship with a man who expects her to plant roots? No freaking way。 Once she gets what she’s after, she has no intention of sticking around。 But Knockemout has a way of getting under people’s skin。 And once Nash decides to make Lina his, he’s not about to be dissuaded…even if it means facing the danger that nearly killed him。

😧2022 has been the year I just read all of Lucy Score's work and I think it's pretty fitting that one of my last books of the year was written by her。 The best part was my first book that I read by her was Things We Never Got Over, so it's just a very nice full circle moment。I。 LOVED。 THIS。 I love her。 I was hooked from the start but the more I learned about our characters, the more I loved this book。 Also having Daisy and Knox back in my life was not something I was going to not appreciate。 I l 😧2022 has been the year I just read all of Lucy Score's work and I think it's pretty fitting that one of my last books of the year was written by her。 The best part was my first book that I read by her was Things We Never Got Over, so it's just a very nice full circle moment。I。 LOVED。 THIS。 I love her。 I was hooked from the start but the more I learned about our characters, the more I loved this book。 Also having Daisy and Knox back in my life was not something I was going to not appreciate。 I love that man。Lucy brings us back to Knockemout and honestly, I never want to leave after this one。 Nash was superb and Lina was a headstrong main character that knew what she wanted and needed in life, but maybe not as well as she thought she did。 The two of them have amazing chemistry that you never want to look away from。Another excellent read from Lucy and definitely not my last。 I cannot wait for more。 THE WEDDING SCENE? "God help me。 I wanted to give it to her。 Wanted to cut myself open and let the pain, the cold bleed out so she could fill me up with fire and put me back together again。"It was great to be back in Knockemout - this sequel did NOT disappoint! I think I liked it better than the first one, and that was very tough competition。 There was just something immensely compelling about this wounded and vulnerable hero; he's a genuinely good guy who is in a dark place, and it's not until a fierce, fiery wom "God help me。 I wanted to give it to her。 Wanted to cut myself open and let the pain, the cold bleed out so she could fill me up with fire and put me back together again。"It was great to be back in Knockemout - this sequel did NOT disappoint! I think I liked it better than the first one, and that was very tough competition。 There was just something immensely compelling about this wounded and vulnerable hero; he's a genuinely good guy who is in a dark place, and it's not until a fierce, fiery woman enters his life that he starts coming back into the light。 I also loved the neighbors aspect, and just how much this community bonds together。 It could certainly be read as a standalone if you really wanted to, but the community is integral to the story and the suspense element ties the books together。 The romance is at the heart of everything though, and these two were fire together - it's a hot slow burn, with crackling chemistry and tons of sexual tension。 These opposites attract in a big way, and it was so much fun watching them fall together。The story follows Nash, a cop who was recently shot while on the job。 Nash has always been a rule-follower, a relationship guy, and a kind, loving man - but the experience has changed him, and he can feel himself getting pulled into the darkness。 So when the woman his brother dated briefly twenty years ago (then befriended) moves into the apartment next door, it's a shock to the system。 Lina is only in town temporarily and she's sure to run at the first sign of a relationship, but Nash can feel himself being drawn to her。 The woman is a spitfire, and that's exactly what Nash needs right now。 Being around her sparks something inside Nash, and he can't seem to get enough of that feeling。 Even if they could stop bickering, neither one is capable of a relationship at the moment - and there are nothing but obstacles in their path。This starts out a little darker and grittier than Things We Never Got Over, with an undercurrent of pain fueling Nash's every action。 He's not in a good place when the book begins, and I kind of loved the added depth that gave the story。 Spending time with Lina lightens up both Nash and the book, though it's emotionally-charged the whole way through。 The transformation of both characters from start to finish was truly impressive, and one of the things that makes this love story so engaging。 They're two people who shouldn't fit together (and probably wouldn't have at another time in their lives), but they find connection in the experiences that have lead them here。 Nash makes for SUCH a great lead - he's clearly a good guy, but his depression is erasing the personality he once had。 I loved the focus on his mental health, and I wanted as much of that element as I could get。 Personally, I wouldn't have minded less suspense and more focus on Nash's struggles, but I knew this had romantic suspense elements going in。 It tells you just how much I was enjoying the relationship development that I became impatient every time the focus was on something else, lol。 I loved being back in Knockemout, and this did plenty to get me excited for the next love story in the series。 It was excellent。 I was lucky enough to receive an early copy (huge thanks!), and am voluntarily leaving a review of this spicy and emotional romance。 。。。more

4。5 stars rounded down!First off, I want to say thank you again to Cam and Raincoast/Sourcebooks for sending me this finished copy, I've never been so excited to receive a package!!I LOVED this book, it was everything I wanted and more! I was a little nervous going into this one since I liked the first so much, but I think Score took what needed to be improved on from her last, and wrote the heck out of this。 Nash and Lina had a fun and fiery dynamic, I liked the conflict Score created - it was 4。5 stars rounded down!First off, I want to say thank you again to Cam and Raincoast/Sourcebooks for sending me this finished copy, I've never been so excited to receive a package!!I LOVED this book, it was everything I wanted and more! It’s taken me awhile to figure out how to write this review。 I keep wavering between 3/4 stars。 I had reviewed it 4 stars but the more I thought on this the more a star rating doesn’t make sense for me personally here。 I think a non-starred makes better senseI enjoyed the romance aspect of the novel but I’m always iffy about cop heroes。 It’s not that Lucy necessarily mishandled the narrative with cops。 I think she wrote a story the best that she could and genuinely tried to push a positive messa It’s taken me awhile to figure out how to write this review。 I keep wavering between 3/4 stars。 I had reviewed it 4 stars but the more I thought on this the more a star rating doesn’t make sense for me personally here。 I think a non-starred makes better senseI enjoyed the romance aspect of the novel but I’m always iffy about cop heroes。 It’s not that Lucy necessarily mishandled the narrative with cops。 I think she wrote a story the best that she could and genuinely tried to push a positive message, which I appreciated。 And I know for a fact my issues is really with my own relationship with cops that I’m bringing to the story。 I grew up in a cop household who are very “blue lives matter” while I’m very much BLM and distrust cops bc I know how messed up it is as the systemic level。The whole narrative of “not all cops are bad” makes me uncomfortable。 It reminds me too much of ugly arguments I’ve had with my cop godfather。 So I’m torn。 On the one hand I appreciate that the narrative recognizes how power hungry, sexist, racist many officers can be in the force and how it impacts lives。 I appreciate that the narrative has Nash not take that shit from his boys and removes them。 On the other hand, it felt a little TOO try hard。 There’s one scene where a “dirty” officer pulls over a Black couple and Nash emphasized how it was wrong and too strongly reiterated how these are upstanding Black citizens。 And I just hated that scene because it very much plays into respectability politics aka Black lives only matter because they are “upstanding,” “valuable,” “highly educated” when really Black folks should matter because they are people outside of their “value” to society。Worth noting I am NOT saying this book is “problematic。” I just think it could have been edited by someone who has a more critical eye to think about and address these narrative nuances。 It’s all too surface level and wasn’t the most successful execution of a severe problem in the US。My other issue is the way the narrative unconsciously body shames men。 One of the “bad” officers is described as unattractive because of his height and weight。 There’s a scene where he’s jokingly described as “a fat blob” and eh。 Not all men are tall and muscular。 And not all women find that attractive。 This is a larger problem with romance books in general。 So I don’t fault the narrative for doing something thousands of other romance books do。 I just wish it handled men’s body representation better。The romance wasn’t my favorite but it was enjoyable enough。 Whereas I often still think about TWNGO, I can’t say the same about TWHFTL。 I struggle with the whole “I touch you and I felt literal sparks and now I’m obsessed with you。” I need more than that from a romance novel。 。。。more

Wow! I can't accurately put into words how awesome this book is。 I thought TWNGO would be a really hard act to follow, but this book knocked it out of the park, too! Nash and Lina have SO much chemistry, but also SO much baggage。 When they meet, Nash is still recovering from being shot and nearly dying。 He's mostly well physically, but mentally is another story。  Meeting Lina makes Nash feel alive again, physically and emotionally。 Lina has her own issues to overcome to have a relationship with Wow! AMAZING! LOVED IT! An absolutely incredible continuation of the Knockemout series。 Nash and Lina, good god, I thought Knox and Naomi were perfect, these two set the pages on fire AND had me from the start。 Nothing cheesy about this romance/action/drama story。 I will admit some of my favorite scenes were between Sloan and Lucian。 I truly need their story and soon! Talk about love/hate relationship, that sets the room on fire whenever they are together。 I will say I didn’t see the twist in Nash/Li AMAZING! LOVED IT! A Delight and a Surprise! Lucy Score continues to delight and surprise me。 She has evolved as a writer, and never stops perfecting her craft。 Things We Hide from the Light is book two in the Knockemout series and I never thought I could love a book more than Things We Never Got Over but guess what?! Nash and Lina have that instant chemistry that I adore。 As the police chief of Knockemout, VA, Nash feels the responsibility of keeping the town safe deeply。 But what happens when he can’t do his job A Delight and a Surprise! Nash and Lina have that instant chemistry that I adore。 As the police chief of Knockemout, VA, Nash feels the responsibility of keeping the town safe deeply。 But what happens when he can’t do his job? Because reasons。 (No spoilers here, folks) There’s more to Nash than the way he fills out his uniform pants, and I love nothing more than a wounded hero who is still trying to take care of everyone and everything around him。 Lina is only passing through town, ostensibly to visit her old friend, Knox, Nash’s brother。 Or is she up to something murky and disreputable? Strong and bad-a$$ Lina is a wild card, but I promise you, the more you know Lina, the more you’ll love her。 Lina is a cinnamon roll heroine! She’s sexy, capable, loyal, smart, and strong。 Of course, Lucy Score throws in an adorable rescue pet, vivid townspeople, a mystery, doofus villains, and some action adventure! This is a great book with many moving parts and a very nuanced story! I loved it! Nash and Lina are both strong, independent souls who are both coming to terms with vulnerability。 My catnip。 。。。more
